Public city pools open for the summer

Parks Commisioner Mitchell Silver kicked off outdoor pool season at Crotona Outdoor Pool in the Bronx.

Everybody jump in, the water is fine!

The city opened its 55 outdoor public pools Friday, promising a cool reprieve for residents from the scorching heat of summer.

The splashy kickoff took place at Crotona Outdoor Olympic Pool in the Bronx, where Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver cut the ribbon on a new $1.6 million spray shower on the pool deck.

The city’s pools are open seven days a week until Labor Day. Swimming hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
